What is Coaching?
A coach is helping someone to get where they want to get to, faster than they could on their own.
‘A collaborative, solution-focused, results orientated and systematic process in which the coach facilitates the enhancement of work performance, life experience, self-directed learning and personal growth of the coachee.’ [Association for Coaching]
“Coaching is partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximise their personal and professional potential” [International Association of Coaching]
- People come to coaching because they recognise that there is a difference between their current situation and their desired situation, between their intention and their behaviour, between what they have and what they want.
- Reflection, Goal setting and taking action are the core drivers behind success in coaching.
- Every session will produce some agreed tasks or actions that will move you towards your goals.
- Coaching is usually online via Zoom /Skype (video phone) as this is time-efficient and effective. Coaching can also be arranged face-to-face if required (additional costs may be accrued)
Coaching provides a non-judgemental, supportive space in which you can explore your choices and options. It is proactive and solution focused with a clear orientation on where you are now and your desired future. Coaching moves someone from functional to exceptional. Live your most vibrant life.
Hypnotherapy is an additional option. It is a technique which utilizes your imaginative powers – the heightened awareness of the hypnotic/trance state and the suspension of the inner critical voice, can help you to focus on a problem much more deeply and resourcefully. It can also reconnect you to your sources of joy, calm and confidence with complete relaxation.
Coaching is not counselling or therapy. Hypnotherapy with Psychotherapy offers a safe, boundaried space and a healing relationship within which emotional and/or behavioural problems or patterns can be acknowledged and resolved, enabling a person to move from dysfunctional or self-sabotaging behaviours to more functional and effective ways of being or doing. Therapy can typically be a longer process. Some clients may wish to engage with coaching after a period of therapy has concluded and in all such cases, a new contract for our work together would first need to be agreed.
Mentoring and coaching may use similar skills and approaches. The difference can be summarised as: “A coach has some great questions for your answers; a mentor has some great answers for your questions.”
